Buen Camino 5: Keeping on the Camino

Some people wonder how you manage to find your way on the Camino. Of course there are the numerous guidebooks that some follow religiously and others use as

a quick reference for accommodation.

There are scallop shell motifs on the pavement in the towns and cities to guide the way.
Then there are the signs and markers. Finally there are the yellow arrows painted onto any available surface along the way.

  1. Have you seen or heard many birds . Do they have sky larks early in the morning to welcome your new day???? we were wondering if there are many species similar to ours in NZ.

    1. Lots of little birds around. Saw some buzzards overhead today and have heard cuckoo's echoing across valleys.

  2. Remember seeing some eagle nests near Santo Domingo del Calzada and plenty of crows along the way. The signs are great and make it easy generally to find your way. The Brierley guidebooks were our popular references.

  3. Hope you enjoyed Burgos Paul. The El Cid statue, magnificent cathedral and beautiful riverside area were three highlights for us.

  4. With all the signage, is it still easy to get lost or would you need to be blonde?

    1. Some people do miss the signs and head off the way at times. Not just blondes.
